Southsea Wanders: Jam & Bowler

*UPDATE – Jam & Bowler has now closed*

I’ve been waiting all my life for a place like this and what happens when it opens? I have to wait 4 weeks to go because of some stupid virus. But finally, I have made it to Jam & Bowler and it didn’t disappoint.

Jam & Bowler is Southsea’s newest addition – a breakfast and brunch restaurant on Victoria Road South.  If, like me, you get a bit Michael-Douglas-in-Falling-Down when you arrive at five minutes past breakfast, you don’t have to worry about it. You can get it alllllllll day here.

Michael Douglas -

It’s a gorgeous little place right next to The Library Barbers Club Of Southsea. All exposed brick, vintage trinkets, funky wallpaper, jazz and quirky crockery. And, although I’m not quite sure what they’re for, there are copper pipes and brass tap fittings along the wall, aimed over each table lining the sides. Perhaps to dispense Bloody Marys one day in the future (a girl can dream).

I had the Jam & Bowler Stack – a simple yet divine combo of muffin spread with sweet chilli sauce and topped with crispy streaky bacon, diced avocado and a perfectly cooked poached egg (£7). Mr SW had a Notorious B.A.P – a mother of a bap filled with sausage patty, egg, crispy bacon, tomato ragu and melty cheese (£5). Sorry, no photos of the food – it was all devoured too quickly!

Vowing to come back again and again to gradually work our way through the menu (‘You Cannot be Serious’ with Mac & Cheese – you’re next) we left with satisfied tummies and ready to face the weekend.
